Q1. Tell us where it all began

I had heard about subscription boxes in the UK, so I went looking for an Irish book subscription one and there wasn’t one. I subscribed to one of the UK book subscription companies and I had the idea that maybe other people would like this service but would like it from an Irish company. I was working in IT, so I set up a website and took if from there.

Q2. What differentiates you from similar businesses in this area?

When we began, our concept was that the book and contents in the subscription box are a surprise so it’s a gift to yourself. Quality has to be high as our reputation is based on trust as people do not know what they will receive so keeping our customers happy is absolutely essential. We evolved to offer once off boxes and people can create their own gift box too so customers like curating their own gifts to send to people they care about.

Our ethos is that we want to make people happy, even if it is just for 10 seconds when they are opening their gift box. Knowing that someone cares about you is the best feeling in the world (even when that someone is yourself).

Q3. What would you say are the biggest challenges your business is currently facing?

Inflation – as we have zero control over it. Everything else is manageable and fixable but I can’t do anything about rising costs.

Q4. What are your top ‘moments of joy’ over the past 4-5 years?

A new premises, our van, hiring staff are all big milestones but being honest – my moments of joy are the fact that I get to come to work with my family every day and we make people happy when they receive something from us. Nothing beats that.

Q5. What does the future hold for your business?

Keep doing what we are doing, keep supporting others, keep encouraging reading, keep building, keep creating and most of all keep improving and that will bring in new customers. We believe in giving as much as we can to as many as we can.
